Startup benefits
Cloudflare for Startups
Overview
Cloudflare for Startups gives early-stage companies credits against Cloudflare's usage-based services while keeping its core security and networking features free at every tier. It has three tiers keyed to how much a company has raised and whether it arrived through an affiliated partner, so a bootstrapped team and a funded one apply differently. Credits run for a fixed window and cover compute, storage, data and delivery products. The firewall, DDoS protection, DNS, CDN and certificates most teams need on day one sit outside the meter.
Who it's for
It is for for-profit technology companies: incorporated within the last ten years, actively building a product, with a live website, a public presence on LinkedIn, X or GitHub, and a business email on the company's own domain. Funding is expected to be no later than Series B and raised within the past year. Educational institutions, personal blogs, consultancies, agencies, managed service providers and resellers are not a fit, and the programme is first-time only per company.
What you get
Credits cover the developer platform: Workers, Durable Objects, Workflows, Workers AI, KV, D1, Queues, Vectorize, R2, Pages, Images, Stream, Cache Reserve and Argo. Included free at any tier: three enterprise domains, unlimited Business and Pro plans, DDoS and bot protection, a WAF with a broad custom-rule allowance, SSL, Page Shield, CDN and DNS, limited load balancing and rate limiting, and an uptime commitment. Support deepens by tier, from docs and community to a named account manager and architect hours.
How to apply
Create the Cloudflare account you intend to run on, add a valid payment method, and apply with that account. The form asks about the company, product and funding history; approval usually lands within a couple of days, and a rejection comes with a reason you can answer. Once approved, credits are applied and eligible usage is deducted automatically. Watch the dashboard and monthly invoice: product-specific caps apply inside the overall balance, and the window closes on a calendar date, not when the balance runs out.
Timing
Rolling, with no cohort and no deadline. Credits are valid for one year or until consumed, whichever comes first, and extensions are not granted, so diary the confirmation date. There is no annual window. Current tiers and terms are on the official page.
How to stand out
Model the expensive parts first: object storage and AI inference carry their own caps inside the credit balance, so an architecture that assumes unmetered inference will hit them. AI Gateway is outside the credits and domain registration is always paid. Because the programme is one-time per startup, apply when the workload is real rather than at idea stage, and if you later need more, ask for a case-by-case tier review before the window closes, since an upgrade does not extend it.
FAQ
Can we apply again later?
The programme is a one-time opportunity per company and credits cannot move between accounts; a second startup needs its own account and application.
Are all Cloudflare products covered?
No. Usage-based services are covered within product caps; registrar fees, AI Gateway and premium network products are not.
