Google for Startups Cloud Program

Google Cloud Global Rolling

Overview

Google for Startups Cloud Program is Google Cloud's route for early-stage companies that want to build on its infrastructure without paying full price at the start. It has two entry points: a self-serve tier for pre-funded builders, and funded tiers for startups from pre-seed to Series A. What you receive is set by stage, funding and actual usage, not the form alone. Alongside credits: model access, training, Workspace and Maps benefits, and named support from Google's startup and customer engineering teams as it grows.

Who it's for

The programme is for product companies, not everyone with an idea. Pre-funded builders with a working MVP and a clear business model go one way; teams with pre-seed to Series A funding go another. Applications are screened on age, stage, funding type and past credit use. Agencies, consultancies, dev shops, nonprofits, schools, government bodies and acquired or listed companies are excluded, and the business email must match the company's domain.

What you get

Credits are the headline: an allowance against eligible Google Cloud consumption, released over two years on a schedule that differs for AI-focused startups. Around them sit credits for Google's frontier models, self-paced training through Google Skills, a Workspace Business Plus subscription for a period, monthly Maps Platform credits, and a path to Google Cloud Marketplace, where enterprise buyers draw on committed spend. Dedicated success managers and customer engineering arrive as the company grows.

How to apply

Before applying, fix two things that cause most rejections: the email address must be on the company's domain, and the website must be live and describe the company, team and product in its own words. Then note the 18-character billing account ID the credits should land in, since approval deposits them there and they cannot be moved later. The form asks about stage, funding and intended workload; Google replies by email, usually inside a week, longer if information is missing. Approved credits appear against that account and run on their own schedule.

Timing

Rolling, with no cohort and no single annual window. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, and eligibility rules are revisited each year, so a previous acceptance does not guarantee a renewal. Confirm the current tiers, review time and credit period on the official page.

How to stand out

Apply when the site is real. Google screens out placeholder pages and pages padded with generated copy, and a thin site is a common reason good companies are turned down. Match the email domain to the site domain first, then write the workload down: which services, roughly what monthly spend, and what the credits unlock next quarter. Keep the architecture diagram to one page. Subscription-billed products and third-party models bought through the marketplace sit outside the credits.

FAQ

Do we need venture funding to apply?

The self-serve tier is for pre-funded builders; the larger funded tiers expect verifiable pre-seed to Series A investment. Read the current criteria first.

Can the credits pay for third-party models?

No. Credits apply to eligible Google-owned services billed by usage; third-party models and marketplace products are billed to you directly.
